Home Gym
Training and working out has always been a hobby for me (even if I didn’t always look that way!) I remember going to the gym for the first time with my Dad and brother when I was probably 14 or 15 years old. I remember doing bench presses for the first time and my Dad telling me to concentrate on a spot on the ceiling when doing each rep; I can still hear his voice saying it.
Physical health, enhancing my mobility, and improving my balance are all top priorities for me right now. My preference is to work out with other people in a facility; I enjoy the sense of community, competitiveness, and even friendly jabs. However, I am currently considered high risk for COVID, so working out in a facility is a no go!
I suppose I could just workout with what I already have, which includes a rower, dumbbells, and a weight vest, or I could build my own facility at home. I’m choosing option #2…go big or go home (no pun intended)! The whole family is getting involved in picking out equipment, my 4-year-old is using her allowance to buy an awesome new dinosaur yoga mat.
I'm hoping to update you all on the garage gym development over the next few months. Katie and I still roll our eyes as we watch home renovation shows (you're lying if you say you don't watch them!), assuming that the mess has been staged for a more impactful "before" state. Well, I can tell you without a doubt that ours was not staged and you’ll have to wait to see those…
Let us know if you have any recommendations for equipment that we should purchase. On my brother-in-law’s advice, I’m going to get a squat rack first!
