Whoop

I am an avid listener of podcasts. They’re a good way to block out the noise in our house during our work-from-home/ virtual school chaos. I listen to a variety of podcasts, from sports, to sports, to fitness, to sports. Last summer, I noticed that most of these podcasts I was listening to had the same sponsor: Whoop.

I started doing some research on this business and found how quickly they were growing. They are based in Boston, and have developed a wristband that connects to an app which collects physiological data 24/7 to give you the most accurate and granular understanding of your body, health and wellness. It will help you optimize the way you train, how you sleep, and how you recover.  It will tell you whether you need to rest and heal for a day or whether you can go all out and train at peak performance. It also helps in examining how much sleep you actually need each night, as well as the quality of sleep you are receiving.

The biggest piece I have started to focus on is my HRV (heart rate variability) which is the measure of the variation in time between each heartbeat. This variation is controlled by the autonomic nervous system and can be an indication of your health. This is important for people with MS who suffer from autonomic dysfunction. Your HRV score can indicate how your body is doing and how the disease may be progressing.

I recommend giving Whoop a try. There are several articles and studies available to give you a more in-depth understanding of the advantages of this tool and whether it is right for you.

If you have or get a Whoop, join my BreadCo community so we can have some friendly fitness competition!
