Referrals
I took my girls to the park this past weekend, on one of the most beautiful days we’ve had in a very long time. While I was watching them play, I got a call from a former colleague and friend. He was speaking with a mutual friend of ours and heard the news of my diagnosis and called to see how I was doing. I always appreciate it when people reach out because I understand how awkward picking up the phone instead of sending an email or text can be. We were chatting about my new business venture with Bread Co when he asked a simple question “Anything I can do?”
It was a straightforward question that I hadn’t given much thought to. My goal and priority for Bread Co has been to connect with people and families coping with the difficulties of living with MS and to connect them with professionals and brands that can help. However, when asked, "Anything I can do?" I froze and told him I'd connect with him and let him know if there was something.
I'm not sure why I stumbled; I've spent my professional career helping others develop their businesses, and I understand that one person can't do it all. After giving it some thought over the last few days, I realized I need to start asking for more support from the community that has been following along for the past few months.
I am going to ask for one thing: a referral. You might know someone who has been affected by Multiple Sclerosis, please let them know we are here to support them and their families. The larger we grow this community, the more support we can leverage out there in the world. If you know a business owner or someone who works for a company who might be able to assist us in our mission, tell them to email us at info@breadco.ca. The more businesses we can put together, the more benefit it can be for the community.
My vision for Bread Co can only be achieved if the community is willing to work together to grow. I may not have had an answer when talking to my friend this past weekend, but that small question might lead to big things!
